Instructor, Ballet Technique
Hello I’m Stephanie Knudson and I am very excited to be a part of the Bellevue Dance Center.
Little bit about myself... I was raised in Kankakee, Il and grew up dancing at Paula Aubry School of Dance. We all come from somewhere right? : ) I am a graduate of the University of Idaho with a degree in dance. I also have a Master of Science with an emphasis in Recreation Therapy from the University of Florida. I am a former Miami Heat dancer as well as a dancer for Walt Disney World in Florida and performer in commercial projects. Recently, my husband and I moved to Nashville Tn for a change of scenery and a little adventure. My former job, however, was the competition director at East County Performing Arts Center in the East Bay of California. I taught there for 16 years. During that time, I was teacher/choreographer for the competition team specializing in technique, private lessons, and cleaning. During this time, I studied under technique masters such as Denise Wall, Francisco Gella, Lisa Howell and others. In addition, I was a co-founder and artistic director for the Ballet Company of East County which puts on, amongst other productions, an elaborate and very successful interpretation of the classic, The Nutcracker every Christmas. They have just celebrated their 16th anniversary! Before working for the performing arts center, I taught for Diablo Valley Community College, Arizona State University, and University of Florida in the dance dept. I have 30 years of experience teaching dancers from 2 to 80 modern, tumbling, jazz, contemporary, tap, lyrical and ballet. I have been doing Master classes on technique, contemporary, jazz, ballet and musical theater throughout my 30 year career have been some of my best memories. My favorite however, is working on solos and one on one private lessons. One on one training with dancers has brought me so much joy and the dancers solid success. My dancers have helped to add to my list of accomplishments, winning choreography awards from Hollywood Vibe Dance Convention, Hollywood Connection, Bravo, Rainbow Connection, Spotlight Dance Cup, Imagine, Energy and a Federation of Dance Competitions invitation to Dallas for their end of the year national, Revolution Talent Competition and NRG dance project.
I currently judge for Mark of Excellence, Imagine Dance Challenge as well as other dance competitions all over the United States. Meeting dancers from all over and creating a hunger for really strong technique is a passion of mine. I am currently on staff at 360* Dance Festival as a ballet technique instructor and loving the experience to be working with such a wide range of dancers and their passions for dance.
During this time,I have done many conventions and continuing education in order to keep up with the ever changing dance world. I studied under technique masters such as Denise Wall, Francisco Gella, Lisa Howell and others. The most valuable information I have acquired has come from the source, My Dancers!!!
